The rules are the same as in the classic game: green means the right letter in the right place, yellow means the letter is elsewhere in the word, gray means it is not in the word. You need to solve all eight boards in 12 tries, so every guess has to collect as much information as possible.

With 12 tries for eight words you can afford at most four exploring guesses before every next one has to be an answer, and the answers are less common words that rarely come to mind first.
