About Octordly.org

Octordly.org is a small, independent word-game site. Here is who runs it, what our version of Octordle is built on, what we changed and how the site pays for itself.

Who we are

Octordly.org is an independent, fan-made version of Octordle, run by a small independent team that makes and maintains free word games for the browser. We are not a publisher or a media company, just people who enjoy word puzzles and want them to be easy to reach, quick to load and free. When players tell us something is wrong, we fix it.

The site is octordly.org. The easiest way to reach us is the contact form or an email to hello@apptao.io.

Why we made this Octordle

A single five-letter puzzle a day is a nice ritual, but many players want a longer and more demanding game. Solving eight words at once with thirteen guesses turns a quick puzzle into a real exercise in planning: you are no longer just finding a word, you are deciding which board to solve next and how to make every guess count on all eight.

We wanted a version of Octordle that is free, quick to load, works on a phone as well as a laptop, lets you play as many rounds as you like, and never asks you to sign up. That is what you will find on Octordly.org.

What our Octordle is built on

Our game is not written from scratch, and we think it is important to say so. It is based on hello-wordl, an open-source Wordle-style game by Lynn, released under the MIT license. Compared with that single-board original, our build plays eight boards with thirteen guesses, splits every letter key into eight colored blocks so you can follow all the boards at once, and keeps a record of your results as statistics in your browser. The full list of projects we rely on is on the credits page.

What we changed recently

In October 2026 we rebuilt the site around the game. We wrote every page you can read here from scratch, including the rules, a strategy guide based on our own count of the answer list, a word list explainer and a full FAQ. We also tidied the game itself:

  • the in-game help now explains the split keyboard correctly;
  • shared messages now point to octordly.org instead of naming another game;
  • an old language menu whose links led nowhere has been replaced by a working one, so you can now play in 18 languages, each with its own word list;
  • a pop-up that appeared on every visit has gone, and so has an empty ad slot inside the game's result window.

The rules, the English word lists and the way your statistics are saved have not changed, so your existing statistics are still there.

Independence and trademarks

Octordly.org is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Merriam-Webster or Britannica, which publish the original Octordle, or by The New York Times Company, which publishes Wordle. "Octordle" and "Wordle" are trademarks of their respective owners. We use those names only to describe the kind of game we offer, an eight-board Wordle-style puzzle, and not to suggest any connection with them.

How the site is paid for

Octordly.org is free, and ads pay for the hosting and our time. The ads are served by Ezoic and its partners and appear on our pages around the game, never on the boards or the keyboard. Where the law requires it, a consent banner lets you choose how ads may use cookies.

Your data, in short

Your settings and game statistics are stored in your own browser and are never sent to us. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use, and our advertising partners use cookies as described in our privacy policy. If you write to us, we use your message only to reply and to improve the game.
